Another art challenge by , , and ! For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a short, specified time to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with. This week's topic is *vinegar's idea: Costume Challenge: Design four costumes (and characters) for a fantasy project featuring adventurers from the East (East Asia), North (Eastern European / Slavic), South (African / Tribal), and West (Cowboys / Native American).
My first idea. Half godessess, half magical girls.
As a Native American, I'd have loved to see West done with an actual Native twist if that was your original intention, BUT I do love the cowboy interpretation and think it's wonderful. Maybe just consider taking that part out of the description, simply because West's appearance doesn't incorporate anything Native.
In fact, West is my favorite, North and South are tied for second.
i really love the dynamic poses and expressions, and your designs are great. i don't know who came up with the theme, but putting "Cowboys / Native Americans" as the west was rather insensitive, since cowboys were simply the east (or north, in this case) imposing its will on the peoples already occupying the west. that said, the direction in which you took these themes is beautifully designed and rendered, your technique never fails to impress me n.n
It's pretty simple - the Native Americans already lived in "the west," and were driven out by land-hungry troops, homesteaders, and European disease (smallpox, etc.) just so that the white immigrants could expand their own territory.
